AUOMMATON Holds Successful Symposium and Award Ceremony in Abuja
The ambience at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, was vibrant and filled with optimism on Thursday, October 23, 2025, as members of the Amalgamated Union of Motor Mechanics and Technicians of Nigeria (AUOMMATON) converged for their much-anticipated 2025 Symposium and Award Ceremony. The event brought together technicians, policymakers, and industry stakeholders in a shared commitment to reposition the nation’s automobile and technical service sector.
This year’s theme, “Waging War Against Fake Automobile Spare Parts and Adulterated Lubricants: The Root Causes And The Way Forward,” captured the essence of AUOMMATON’s mission to protect both technicians and consumers from the dangers posed by counterfeit automotive products. The symposium served as a powerful platform for discussing practical solutions, fostering partnerships, and strengthening the regulatory framework of Nigeria’s auto industry.
In his welcome address, Comrade Engr (Dr) Oseni Suleiman, the National President of AUOMMATON, commended members for their resilience and unity. He emphasized that fake spare parts and substandard lubricants not only damage vehicles but also undermine public safety and national productivity. “Our goal,” he said, “is to ensure that technicians become the vanguard in the fight against the circulation of fake products while maintaining professional integrity in their craft.”
The event featured keynote presentations and goodwill messages from representatives of key institutions, including the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB), Lawmaco Interbiz Limited, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Nigeria Customs and the Federal Ministry of Labour. Each speaker underscored the need for stronger collaboration between government agencies and professional bodies to curb the importation and distribution of counterfeit products.
A highlight of the day was the Award Presentation Ceremony, where distinguished individuals, professionals, and partners of AUOMMATON were honoured for their outstanding contributions to the advancement of Nigeria’s automobile and technical service industry. Award categories included the Nigerian Technicians Grand Ambassador (NTGA), Auto Technician Ambassador (ATA), and Certificates of Appreciation, all presented to deserving recipients who have supported the Union’s vision through advocacy, innovation, and professional service.
In his closing remarks, Comrade Engr. (Dr) Oseni Suleiman, who is also the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, described the event as a milestone achievement for the Union. He expressed gratitude to sponsors, partners, and participants for their commitment to AUOMMATON’s cause and urged continued support toward building a more sustainable and reputable automobile industry in Nigeria.
